The San Antonio Community Rescue Shelter is an innovative program developed in response to the need for new and agile approaches to solve the excessive number of euthanasia at Animal Care Services.
Our Mission
One of the biggest road blocks to saving the life of an
animal on the euthanasia list is securing successful placement outside of the shelter.
Help us on our mission to establish an innovative shelter
that provides a place of refuge where rescue organizations can safely place cats and dogs without
the dependence of finding a foster family or paying
exorbitant amounts of money to boarding facilities.

From 2015 - 2024 Animal Care Services euthanized an average of 4,500 animals a year.
This was a significant decrease from 2009 - 2010 when a staggering 18,457 animals were euthanized at ACS. The pivotal decision to increase reliance on rescue organization partners made this possible!

This year, thousands of healthy and adoptable animals are destined to die because we have stopped innovating and pushing for progress!
We have the tax payer dollars to equip rescue organizations with common sense resources.
Why are our city leaders not pushing to solve these issues?
Tax payer dollars should go toward REAL solutions and aim to achieve outcomes that the community can support.
IN 2024 ACS WAS AWARDED $32 MILLION
DESPITE UNDERPERFORMING IN 2023.
OUR SHELTER PROPOSES TO INCREASE POSITIVE OUTCOMES ASKING A MINIMAL INVESTMENT OF $350,000 FROM THE CITY.

Rescue organizations are a crucial component to the workflow, efficiency and goals of
Animal Care Services. However they often lack the funds and resources to pull animals from ACS in time to save their lives.
It's time to start implementing straightforward, game-changing solutions that enable rescue organizations to focus on saving lives, instead of navigating obstacles.
THE BUILD
Central to our ethos is a desire to create a nurturing environment that positively impacts the health of our shelter animals.
Our campus will be built on a2-4 acre property, giving ample space for care.
DESIGN
Modern sheltering is critical for the efficient operation of daily tasks, management of workflows and allowing staff to adequately handle capacity in a focused and manageable manner.
COMMUNITY RESOURCE
Operating as a community led shelter, our vision a true collaborative effort between the local community, Animal Care Services, rescue organizations,
the City of San Antonio and business partners.
